When you watch a Mississippi State football game, you know two things are going to happen: Cowbells will be heard in the background and the Bulldogs’ quarterback will run the football (and with a high success rate).

Dan Mullen’s offense always has been a run-first unit, but it has lacked quality tailback play in the past two seasons. Numerous times in 2015 and ’16, the Bulldogs were unable to convert in short-yardage situations – something Bulldogs fans weren’t accustomed to under Mullen.

In 2009, Anthony Dixon rushed for 1,391 yards and 12 touchdowns, and averaged 5.4 yards per carry.
