After a shockingly disappointing 2016 campaign, we expected significant turnover on the Ole Miss coaching staff this offseason. Hell, we clamored for it. After four years of stagnation—the only change since then was the departure of linebackers coach Tom Allen, who was replaced with an internal hire—some changes were overdue.
But the dizzying pace at which the turnover has occurred has nevertheless been surprising. Hugh Freeze replaced both his offensive and defensive coordinator on Thursday, and still has holes to fill at defensive line coach and the recruiting position vacated by Barney Farrar. With more moves circling the rumor mill (chief among them the potential departure of wide receivers coach Grant Heard), we might still not be done.
