DESTIN, Fla. – On the day SEC schools received a record $455.8 million payout their presidents voted that those who let safety slip will have to give a lot of that money right back.
After one year of the SEC Network in conference bank accounts schools received an average payout of slightly more than $31.2 million per school.
The figure includes $436.8 million from the conference and $19 million from bowl games.
The per-school payout is up from last year’s average of $20.9 million.
One of the big topics at this week’s business meetings has been the safety of the playing environment and how to punish schools who allow fans to rush the field or court.
