A play is successful if you gain 50 percent of necessary yardage on first down, 70 percent on second down, and 100 percent on third and fourth down. Big plays are gains of 20+ yards. Scoring opportunities include trips inside the opponent’s 40-yard line + all touchdowns from outside the 40.
