Ole Miss QB Ryan Buchanan giving up football

Buchanan told OMSpirit.com that he is walking away from the game to focus on his studies and future employment opportunities. He told the website he considered transferring to another school, but couldn’t see himself giving the same passion to any school other than Ole Miss.

His decision clears the way for five-star true freshman Shea Patterson to battle redshirt freshman Jason Pellerin for the backup job this spring. Pellerin was a three-star recruit in the 2015 class. Patterson, who already is enrolled, was the No. 1 quarterback nationally in the 2016 recruiting class.
