Brittney Reese won the gold medal in the long jump in the 2012 London Olympics, and she is back to defend her title against the world’s best.
The former Rebel qualified 3rd in last nights qualifying round with a jump of 6.78 meters. Sports Illustrated predicts that Reese will win the gold medal in tonight’s event. Her main competition is Brooke Stratton of Australia and Ivana Spanovic of Serbia.
Spanovic had the best qualifying jump, jumping 6.87 meters.
Reese spoke to the media after the qualifying event.
“The goal was just to come out and hit the qualifying mark, I did it on my first jump, and I kind of backed off which I know is something that I can’t do tomorrow,” the former Ole Miss standout said.
