Fred Smoot, an Ole Miss Rebel?
As odd as it sounds, the boisterous former Mississippi State and NFL cornerback told “Pardon My Take” he originally was headed to Ole Miss to play for then-Rebels coach Tommy Tuberville.
Known for his loud and talkative ways, Smoot said he was able to coax his opponents into verbal spats and get in their heads. Smoot, who said it was “mental warfare,” said he especially remembers a game from his freshman season against Ronney Daniels and Auburn.
“He was dominating the SEC,” Smoot said. “I don’t remember what phrases I was using because I was really talking to his coach (Tommy Tuberville, who was in his first season at Auburn).
