With the Sugar Bowl finally official for Ole Miss the stat of the night was one of five.
The Rebels are just one of five schools to make a repeat trip to a New Year’s Six bowl game.
In the shifting landscape of college football and its postseason, New Year’s Six is the new New Year’s Day. Playing on Jan. 1 used to carry special status. Now lots of bowls play on Jan. 1, but playing in one of the bowl games that are set by the College Football Playoff committee carries more meaning.
The five who can now claim that for each of the first two years of this new arrangement are Alabama, Ohio State, Florida State, Michigan State and Ole Miss.
