FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Barring a last-minute contract agreement Wednesday night, Minnesota Wild goalie Devan Dubnyk can negotiate a new contract with any team in the NHL on Thursday.
That's a part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement since, without an extension from the Wild, Dubnyk becomes an unrestricted free agent July 1.
The negotiation window granted to all pending UFAs on Thursday could add a new wrinkle to the Wild's talks with Dubnyk, a finalist for the Vezina Trophy and Masterton Award set to be given out Wednesday night.
Because of conflicts and the natural course of NHL negotiations, the Wild and Dubnyk's agent Mike Liut have not had many conversations regarding a new contract for the goalie before this week.
