Wilderness Walk: Space is the Place

Wilderness, you may not have known it, but we passed a milestone on Sunday. Sunday marked the 102nd birthday of one Sun Ra. Born Herman Poole Blount, Sun Ra was a jazz piano player. He was unlike almost any other musician on this earth, assuming the name "Sun Ra," he travelled to Saturn in college (or so he said) and came back to Earth as a new being. After some military service in World War II, Ra became one of the most renowned avant-garde jazz musicians of all time.

Truly a unique individual. See here his 1976 performance of "Take the A Train" from the Montreux Jazz Festival.
