ANAHEIM, Calif. -- During Thomas Vanek's first year with the Minnesota Wild, the criticism started early.
Signed before the 2014-15 season to score goals, the former University of Minnesota star didn't notch his second goal until 22 games into the season, on Nov. 26.
Eventually, he was dropped to the third line.
Whether it's because of his familiarity with the system or an improved work ethic, the 31-year-old forward from Austria is off to a much stronger start this season.
Through the Wild's first four games, Vanek has two goals and an assist. But perhaps more impressive is his improved play without the puck.
