The Minnesota Vikings took another step forward in 2015, winning the NFC North title before losing to the Seahawks in the playoffs. They hold the No. 23 pick in the NFL Draft as a result, and they're looking to draft an impact player that can help them become legitimate Super Bowl contender in 2016. Here's all the latest news and rumors surrounding the Vikings' draft plans:
Vikings will draft wide receiver in first round
Minnesota only has a few needs they're looking to address in the draft, but their biggest weakness is at wide receiver. According to the Star Tribune's Matt Vensel, they will address that need in the first round of the draft:
After addressing both their porous offensive line and the safety position in free agency, General Manager Rick Spielman and the Vikings, who have gotten up close and personal with the top wide receivers in this draft class, seem poised to draft one of them with their 23rd overall pick Thursday night.
But drafting and developing wide receivers can be a crapshoot for even the NFL’s best — not that anyone needs to tell Spielman and the Vikings. The franchise has been searching for a top-flight wide receiver since the first stint for the mercurial Randy Moss ended too early in 2005.
Which receiver will it be?
The Vikings have shown interest in several receivers with the No. 23 pick, including TCU's Josh Doctson, Notre Dame's Will Fuller and Baylor's Corey Coleman, but their top target is Ole Miss' Laquon Treadwell. Considered to be the top wideout prospect in the draft and a potential top 10 pick, ESPN's Todd McShay has Treadwell falling all the way to the Vikings.
With outstanding hand-eye coordination and body control, Treadwell is highly effective on contested throws and jump balls. He'd give QB Teddy Bridgewater a receiver who can consistently win on short-to-intermediate throws. Great value at No. 23, too.
