MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer is heading to the hospital Wednesday for emergency eye surgery, according to a statement from the team.
The new development makes Zimmer’s status for Thursday’s matchup with the Cowboys uncertain. Vikings general manager Rick Spielman says the team is working on a contingency plan.
The procedure marks the second eye surgery for the coach this month, after Zimmer scratched his eye during a game in early November which prompted doctors to discover a torn retina. At the time, doctors warned that delaying treatment could’ve risked blindness.
