MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Vikings traded for Mike Wallace on March 13, sending a fifth-round pick to the Miami Dolphins for a receiver who projected as a better fit for their offense than Greg Jennings -- the veteran the Vikings signed two years earlier after Wallace spurned them in free agency.
The Vikings wanted a deep threat for their offense, and Wallace profiled better in that role than Jennings, who was released the day after the Wallace trade once he and the team couldn't agree to a restructured contract. Wallace's deep speed, or so the thinking went, would create options across the field.
