Vikings traffic plan aims to ease gridiron gridlock

Getting 64,000 Vikings fans in and out of downtown on game days is no easy task. But Vikings officials have a plan. If fans listen.

On Wednesday, the team rolled out its traffic management plan on usbankstadium.com where fans can enter their ZIP code and find directions to the geography-based parking zone that corresponds to the route they are most likely to take to the new $1 billion U.S. Bank Stadium. The website also provides directions for fans looking for tailgating opportunities or taking public transportation, ride share services, bicycles, taxis and other forms of transportation.

The goal is “mitigate cars from driving around the stadium looking for parking,” said Patrick Talty, general manager of SMG, the firm contracted by the Minnesota to operate and manage the stadium by the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority (MSFA).
