Vikings stadium construction halted after 1 workman dies, 1 injured

The North St. Paul roofing company that employed a man who fell to his death Wednesday morning during construction of the new Minnesota Vikings stadium has had several fall-prevention violations in the past five years.

Two men working for Berwald Roofing were involved in the incident about 7:45 a.m. Wednesday at U.S. Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis.

The worker who died fell about 50 feet from the edge of the roof into a snow gutter on the north side of the stadium, according to John Wood, senior vice president of Mortensen Construction, lead contractor on the project.
