Vikings special teams coach Mike Priefer called Sunday "a tough day."
That's when Minnesota released longtime long snapper Cullen Loeffler, an 11-year Viking, in favor of Kevin McDermott, a third-year player out of UCLA.
"It was tough to say goodbye to" Loeffler, Priefer said. "He was a class act from the day I got here until the day he left on Sunday. He handled everything with dignity."
Priefer said the Vikings made the decision to release Loeffler before making other cuts to give McDermott a couple of games to work with Minnesota's specialists.
"At the end of the day, it was a decision based on purely snapping," Priefer said.
