Vikings signee Isaac Fruechte hopes to follow in former Gopehrs' footsteps

The Vikings on Monday signed former University of Minnesota wide receiver Isaac Fruechte following a successful weekend tryout.

The move brings the Vikings' roster to 89, one under the NFL limit of 90. Earlier in the day, the Vikings waived wide receiver Kain Colter and guard Jesse Somsel.

Fruechte, a native of Caledonia, Minn., played three seasons for the Gophers, including catching 18 passes for 292 yards and a touchdown in 2014. He tried out for the Vikings during their rookie minicamp, which ran last Friday through Sunday.

Colter was on the practice squad last year and became nationally known in 2014 for leading a drive for Northwestern's players to form a union.
