Phil Loadholt was given a chance to show what he still had and it turned out he didn’t have a whole heck of a lot.
The Vikings re-structured Loadholt’s contract in order to bring him back, and gave him immediate first-team reps at right tackle in OTAs ahead of free agent pick-up Andre Smith.
Clearly neither Loadholt nor the Vikings liked what the veteran tackle showed in those early sessions, hence the news that Loadholt plans to retire from the team.
Given what Loadholt’s body went through the last two years, it’s hard to blame him for deciding to hang them up.
