Vikings hire Brent Salazar as strength and conditioning coach

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Vikings hired Brent Salazar as their new strength and conditioning coach on Wednesday, bringing in the longtime Kansas City Chiefs assistant to replace strength coach Evan Marcus.

Salazar had been the Chiefs' assistant strength and conditioning coach the last nine seasons, and spent the 2005 season interning with the Denver Broncos. He'll work with assistant strength coaches Jeff Hurd and Chaz Mahle, who are still listed as part of the Vikings' staff.

The team parted ways with Marcus shortly after the end of the 2015 season, after players sustained a handful of pectoral and lower back injuries over the last two seasons.
