Monday night's Vikings-49ers game was the most-watched ever in the "Monday Night Football" late slot, ESPN said. In spite of a 9:20 p.m. CST start time that challenged the sensibilities of early risers -- and a broadcast booth performance that earned less-than-stellar reviews -- it drew 14.3 million viewers.

That thumped the previous high of 11.9 million in the 10-year history of the Monday night doubleheader. It also beat the earlier Monday game -- traditionally the better draw of the two -- which had 13.
