Jaren Hall was the starter and Josh Dobbs the backup. If something happened to both, then Cam Akers — the team’s RB2 — would take over at quarterback. After all, Akers was already getting worked into the offense as a passing threat, something we saw in the failed trick play that involved Akers losing yards.
There should have been no scenario, then, for a Vikings coach to even be able to joke about getting into the game.
The wild thing is that all three of the potential quarterbacks ended up being needed. Hall left the game due to a concussion, ending his first career start before the end of the opening quarter.
