CHICAGO -- Though he's known for his "split-mug front," or double-A gap-blitz package, where he sticks two linebackers on either side of the center, Vikings coach Mike Zimmer typically hasn't been a heavy blitzer during his career as a play-caller. The Vikings have sent five or more pass rushers on only 31.3 percent of their defensive snaps this season, which is barely above the league average of 29.9 percent, according to ESPN Stats and Information, and since Zimmer became the Vikings' head coach, the team is only 17th in the league in terms of blitz frequency.
But the last two weeks, Zimmer turned up the heat on opposing quarterbacks.
