Vikings: Adrian Peterson taking the long view on his workload

MANKATO, Minn. -- Adrian Peterson lobbying for preseason carries had become synonymous with Vikings training camp like sunscreen, rookies carrying veterans' pads and fans yelling for autographs.

No more.

Peterson is taking the long view regarding his workload and the team's commitment to preserve the powerful running back for games that matter.

"I kind of grew out of trying to play in the preseason because it really doesn't matter," Peterson said Saturday. "Might as well throw out all your marbles when it really counts."

Saturday night's padded scrimmage at Blakeslee Stadium meant limited contact. Players are not allowed to tackle to the ground.
