PALESTINE, Texas -- Emmitt Smith's former Dallas backfield mate, Daryl Johnston, has said Adrian Peterson's abbreviated 2014 season likely cost him any chance of breaking Smith's NFL career rushing record.
Not so fast, says Peterson.
The Vikings star running back long has had a goal of topping Smith. Despite missing all but one game last season because of a child-abuse incident, Peterson, 30, wants to play seven or eight more years, which he believes could be enough to get the record.
"I don't think it's impossible,'' Peterson told the Pioneer Press on Saturday during Adrian Peterson Day in his native Palestine.
