The NFL started the preseason with the new kickoff format last night. The kickoff is similar to the XFL kickoff. It is aimed to have more returns, but also be safer for the players. I love the new rule I enjoy watching kickoffs and think they are exciting. Based on the initial reaction I have seen, I will be in the minority opinion on this one.
I think there will be teams that just blast it out of the back of the end zone, especially when leading late. However, placing the ball at the 30 is significantly different than the 20 in expected points.
