U.S. Bank Stadium News & Notes - September 4, 2015

“A Viking Ship in Minneapolis? No, It’s Just the U.S. Bank Stadium”

As the construction of U.S. Bank Stadium continues, the shape of the state-of-the-art building is beginning to look more and more like a Viking ship. However, as Curbed – a national real-estate blog – has noted, that was not the original intention of the design. Rather, the Viking ship look is a byproduct of a stadium design that is intended to get the most out of sunlight and weather while preparing for the inevitable snow that comes with a Minnesota winter. Local buildings in the surrounding area – such as the Guthrie Theater – also played a role in the architectural design that includes jagged edges helping make up the building’s exterior frame.
