CHASKA, Minn. -- It's been more than 20 years since Tony Dungy coached in Minnesota. His time as the Vikings' defensive coordinator was his last stop before he became the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' head coach in 1996, launching a career that culminated with his selection to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in February.
Yet Dungy's ties to Minnesota remain strong, even as his time in the state's sporting landscape has ceased for two decades. He played quarterback at the University of Minnesota, where coach Cal Stoll helped Dungy formulate his principle of living an uncommon life, and while he was the Vikings' defensive coordinator from 1992-96, Dungy formed a lasting friendship with Vikings team chaplain Tom Lamphere, who remains close to Dungy.
