Going into the 2024 NFL season, the Minnesota Vikings’ coaching staff will have a level of consistency that they haven’t had in a while.
With Kevin O’Connell, Wes Phillips, and Brian Flores returning as the head coach and coordinators, the team will have the same people at those three positions for the first time since 2017.
There’s been quite a bit of turnover for the Vikings at those spots over the past decade. Here’s a quick rundown of the changes over that time.
- 2016: Mike Zimmer (Head Coach), Pat Shurmur (Offensive Coordinator), George Edwards (Defensive Coordinator)
- 2017: Zimmer, Shurmur, Edwards
- 2018: Zimmer, John DeFilippo (Offensive Coordinator), Edwards
- 2019: Zimmer, Kevin Stefanski (Offensive Coordinator), Edwards
- 2020: Zimmer, Gary Kubiak (Offensive Coordinator), Andre Patterson/Adam Zimmer (co-Defensive Coordinators)
- 2021: Zimmer, Klint Kubiak (Offensive Coordinator), Patterson/Zimmer
- 2022: Kevin O’Connell (Head Coach), Wes Phillips (Offensive Coordinator), Ed Donatell (Defensive Coordinator)
- 2023: O’Connell, Phillips, Brian Flores (Defensive Coordinator)
- 2024: O’Connell, Phillips, Flores
There has been turnover at those spots for numerous reasons over the years.
