EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Minnesota Vikings defensive back Terence Newman was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday, after intercepting two passes and posting a career-high five passes defensed.
It was Newman's sixth career multi-interception game, and made him just the second cornerback in NFL history to post a two-interception game at age 37, joining Deion Sanders, who did it in 2004. Newman ranks third among active players with 39 interceptions, trailing only Charles Woodson and DeAngelo Hall.
The first time Newman won the award, he was also playing for Mike Zimmer; he had three interceptions as a rookie against the Washington Redskins on Dec.
