MANKATO, Minn. -- U.S. Sen. Al Franken made his annual trip to Minnesota Vikings training camp on Friday, and though he's optimistic about 2016 like the rest of the state after the Vikings' NFC North championship last season, the "Saturday Night Live" alum leavened his prediction with a bit of his trademark wit.
"This is the most optimistic I’ve allowed myself to be in a long time,” Franken said. “I’m not counting on going all the way. No Vikings fan ever is. But I think Minnesotans are very excited about this team.”
The state's junior senator, who chatted with Vikings coach Mike Zimmer for a few minutes, also resumed his running gag with linebacker Chad Greenway, who, upon seeing the Democrat, warns him not to raise his taxes.
