Next Gjallarhorn up: Vikings' ceremonial horn cracks in frigid weather

MINNEAPOLIS -- The first casualty in the frigid temperatures before Sunday's NFC wild card game between the Minnesota Vikings and Seattle Seahawks? The ceremonial horn the Vikings planned for injured tight end Rhett Ellison to blow before the game.

The Vikings' Gjallarhorn -- a fixture at every Vikings home game -- cracked in the sub-zero temperatures before Sunday's game, according to KARE-TV in Minneapolis. The Vikings had to pull out their 2009 edition of the Gjallarhorn, which last saw action in the Metrodome for the Vikings' previous home playoff game: a 34-3 win over the Dallas Cowboys.
