A short time ago, the announcement came down that Monte Kiffin, one of the greatest defensive minds in football history, has passed away at the age of 84.
Kiffin began his coaching career back in 1969 as the defensive coordinator at Nebraska and broke into the NFL coaching ranks in 1983. During his NFL coaching career, he spent two different stints with the Minnesota Vikings.
The first time was under Jerry Burns from 1986 to 1989 as the team’s linebackers coach. After taking a year to coach the linebackers for the New York Jets, Kiffin returned to Minnesota for Burns’ final season in 1991, serving as the defensive coordinator.
