After a day off, the Vikings returned to the field today for their fifth day of training camp. A hot and sunny day, the high-80 degree temperatures were matched only by the heat of competition. With only a week left in Mankato, fringe players and established veterans alike sought to prove themselves worthy of a spot in the lineup.
The two main focuses of practice today were special teams and red zone work. Kick and punt coverage was highly emphasized, with Mike Priefer working with the punt gunners extensively at downing punts near the goal line and getting downfield to contain the returner.
