MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Over the weekend, the Vikings announced that 12 members of the organization — including eight players — presumptively tested positive for COVID-19. On Monday, however, the lab that processes the tests confirmed that they were false positives.
BioReference Laboratories, which does COVID-19 testing for the NFL, says that the false positives were likely caused by contamination during test preparation in its New Jersey laboratory.
All of the NFL members who presumptively tested positive have now been confirmed negative, the lab says.
Other teams affected by the false positives were the Chicago Bears, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the New York Jets and the Philadelphia Eagles.
