Today, as the eleventh day of the eleventh month, we here in the United States officially celebrate Veterans Day. It’s called other things in other countries around the world, whether it’s Remembrance Day or Armistice Day, but since 1954 it’s been Veterans Day here in America.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice of Compiègne, which officially signaled the end of World War I. We no longer have any veterans of that war among us, but there are plenty of veterans from America’s other conflicts that are still with us today, and this day is to show honor and respect to them.
