MANKATO, Minn. -- Even though he signed a five-year, $51.25 million contract extension in June that made him the NFL's highest-paid safety, the Minnesota Vikings' Harrison Smith has said he has no plans to get rid of his pickup truck with more than 130,000 miles on it.
And with no new flashy ride to take him to training camp, Smith chose the more economical way to get from the Twin Cities to Mankato: the Vikings' rookie bus.
The Pro Bowler hopped off the coach bus with several of the team's draft picks for the start of training camp at Minnesota State University on Thursday, setting up for a 10-practice stay at the Division II college before the Vikings head to Cincinnati for joint practices and their preseason opener against the Bengals.
