The Minnesota Vikings' ambitious plan to redevelop nearly 200 acres in northeast Eagan has cleared a city council hurdle.
The council Tuesday unanimously agreed to ask the Metropolitan Council to change the site's land-use designation to allow for construction of stores, a hotel, a small stadium and multifamily housing, along with the team's new headquarters and practice facility.
The team had asked the council to submit the request to the regional planning agency for the approximately 194 acres south of Interstate 494 and east of Dodd Road. If approved, the site's major office designation would be changed to mixed use.
