Bob Sansevere: Former Vikings coach Bud Grant scoffs at the cold

The first-round playoff game Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks was the coldest game ever played by a Vikings team, and there were plenty of games back in the days of the Purple People Eaters at Metropolitan Stadium when the temperatures dropped to single digits and below.

The temperature was minus 6 degrees with a minus-25 wind chill at kickoff Sunday at TCF Bank Stadium, and there was Hall of Fame coach and honorary captain Bud Grant walking to midfield for the coin toss in a short-sleeve shirt.

Classic Bud.

When he coached the Vikings in all those wintry games at Metropolitan Stadium, he didn't allow heaters or heated seating on the sideline.
