Not since Fran Tarkenton retired after the 1978 season have the Minnesota Vikings been able to really find a true franchise quarterback. Since Tarkenton’s retirement, the Vikings have had 17 different quarterbacks open a season as their starter.
A good portion of Minnesota’s quarterback shuffle has occurred recently too. 18 different passers have started in at least one game for the Vikings since 2000.
That high number may indicate to some that Minnesota has not really had a whole lot of talent at quarterback in the last 18 seasons. But that is certainly not the case.
