NFL Free Agency starts on March 9th, and the next few days will feature several Minnesota Vikings rumors. The team has nearly $24 million in cap space and could target a big free agent or two. While the Vikings won't be huge players, they should be able to make a move or two. With that in mind, here are a few of the more interesting rumors and news tidbits on the Vikings.
Vikings Re-Sign Andrew Sendejo
The Vikings have locked up safety Andrew Sendejo for a few more years. The impending free agent signed a four-year, $16 million contract Saturday. That's borderline starter money and it's an odd contract to give out given that head coach Mike Zimmer said he wanted an upgrade over Sendejo. While the Vikings could still target a free agent safety, it becomes complicated with Sendejo's deal.
Is George Iloka Still An Option?
Iloka made perfect sense a partner for Harrison Smith. Iloka played for Zimmer with the Cincinnati Bengals and Iloka would be a perfect compliment for Smith. The Vikings and Iloka had been linked a few times this offseason, but that potential pairing is now in doubt. While Iloka is a massive upgrade over Sendejo, the signing of Iloka by the Vikings makes less sense that it did a few days ago. Adam Jones An Option?
While Jones didn't do himself any favors with his playoff behavior that helped cost the Cincinnati Bengals a playoff win, he's fresh off a strong season. He'll be a free agent this offseason, and is one of the many free agents the Bengals have this offseason. When he hits the open market, many teams will be interested in his services, including the Minnesota Vikings, reports Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.
Jones is 32 years old, but has a few years left in him. The Vikings have Captain Munnerlyn in the slot and Xavier Rhodes at one outside spot, but Terence Newman is an aging free agent. Trae Waynes was a first round pick, but he might not be ready. Jones has ties to Zimmer from their time in Cincinnati and he'd be a great replacement for Newman.
