Three seasons into his rookie deal with the Minnesota Vikings, safety Harrison Smith has emerged as a Pro Bowl caliber player minus the hype necessary to overtake some of the NFL's more heavily-marketed names.
Despite all of that, Smith is extremely happy with his situation in the Twin Cities and wants to work out a contract extension with the team prior to his walk year in 2015.
“That’s all I’ve thought of doing,” Smith said, via Matt Vensel of the Star Tribune. “I have no intentions of going anywhere else. I’ll just let [my agency] handle it. I’m just here to play football and we’ll see what happens.”
Smith underwent "minor surgery" on his left hand after the season - a procedure that he says will have no effect on his participation in the team's offseason program. Other than that, the young standout has been relaxing will also taking in some of Super Bowl week in Arizona.
“They tell us to relax and let our bodies and minds heal,” he said. “But it’s kind of hard to stay away from the gym, so I try to at least get on a bicycle or run or do something to stay in decent shape.”
The 26-year-old Notre Dame product was drafted in the first round by Minnesota in the 2012 NFL Draft. He's slated to make just $2.3 million with signing bonus included next season.
