The Minnesota Vikings expended the 146th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft on Maryland WR Stefon Diggs, a player with a very similar skill set to that of Cordarrelle Patterson.
In the eyes of NFL Spin Zone's Ben Ryan, this may lead to Diggs ultimately replacing Patterson in the team's wide receiving rotation:
One receiver in the first round didn’t work out, so the Vikings tried out another one with Patterson. Patterson was your typical “boom or bust” player going into the draft. As of now, he’s leaning towards the bust side...
Diggs has better hands, and he can do the same thing with the ball as Patterson can. Patterson, however, might lose the job to the former Maryland stud. It’s not that Patterson won’t work out for the Vikings; Diggs could just possibly be better.
It's likely way too early to write off Patterson in this fashion, but it's very possible that Diggs will eat into Patterson's targets as he acclimates to the NFL game.
