Percy Harvin Back On Field with Minnesota Vikings after Requesting Trade

After requesting a trade from the Minnesota Vikings just a day ago, Percy Harvin was back on the field for the Viking’s last practice at minicamp today.

Although Harvin has not publicly announced the reason for his discontent with the Vikings organization, his unhappiness was not apparent on the field today. “It’s a new day today,” said head coach Leslie Frazier. “Just glad that he was participating in what we’re doing. You move forward.”

Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder was glad to see Harvin back on the field as well. “He’s been out here practicing like nothing’s wrong, and that’s what we like to see. He still cares about being here.” Ponder commented after practice.

Harvin also tweeted after the practice, “I'm really clueless on the crazy reports...had great prac today ....to all my real fans and real vikes fans see u at Mankato.” He certainly makes it seem as though he has no plans of going anywhere, which is fortunate for fans like me who don’t want to see our best wide receiver leaving the team.

Although publicly Harvin’s unhappiness remains a mystery, one can speculate at what’s going on inside the athlete’s mind. He took to twitter again yesterday to announce that his request for a trade had nothing to do with money, and stating he had done everything asked and more.

Since 2009, Harvin has been 3rd in the league in all-purpose yards. He posted career highs last season with 87 receptions and 967 yards, along with 345 yards on the ground, with a total of 9 touchdowns, and yet he has only played 58% of the snaps.

I think it is pretty safe to say that he is looking for more play time, and, in my opinion, the Vikings should give it to him, if they really want to resolve the issues Harvin is unhappy with. It’s not like he hasn’t earned it.

Even though Vikings General Manager Rick Spielman says the team has no interest in trading Percy Harvin, the solution is probably simpler than that. I hope to see the Vikings organization make an effort to give the wide receiver more play time and make a push for a winning season, and maybe negotiate a long-term contract after we see how Harvin performs this season with the Vikings.

“He wants the same thing we want. We all want to bring a championship to Minnesota.” Frazier said. “There will always be things you have to work through. I think that will always be the case with players and coaches.”

Players also seem upbeat that Harvin will continue to play in purple. Ponder noted, “I’m not really sure what the issues are. But I’m sure they’ll get worked out.”
