With Minnesota Vikings rumors consumed with the defensive side of the ball this free agency period, many NFL pundits are convinced that the Vikings will target a quarterback with the eighth pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.
However, who the Vikings decided to use said pick on is a matter of great debate.
ESPN NFL Draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. has Johnny Manziel falling to the Minnesota Vikings at #8 in his latest mock draft, claiming that "Manziel could be the solution and, drafted here, there's no question he'd come in with a chip on his shoulder."
However, NFL analyst Mike Sando, Kiper's colleague at ESPN, isn't so sure that Vikings general manager Rick Spielman would be willing to take a chance on Johnny Manziel in such a high-profile slot--
"Christian Ponder was the fourth QB taken in 2011. What if one of the first couple of quarterbacks falls to Minnesota this year? Kiper had Manziel going to the Vikings with the eighth overall choice. I just wonder whether GM Rick Spielman might be gun-shy this early in the draft after whiffing on Ponder three years ago."
Sando sees former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback A.J. McCarron as a more sensible fit, providing he falls to the third round where the Vikings have an extra pick from the Seattle Seahawks after last year's Percy Harvin trade.
