Minnesota Vikings rumors have been flying throughout the first week of the 2014 NFL free agency period, and now it looks like the Vikings are players for one of the best defensive linemen left on the open market.
Per 1500ESPN.com contributor Darren Wolfson, the Minnesota Vikings have inquired about the services of free agent defensive end Robert Ayers--
Told they've called. RT @Ruck15MN @DarrenWolfson With Melton checking the market, there been any interest from #Vikings in FA Robert Ayers?

The Minnesota Vikings have been extremely busy in the free agency market, with the two most notable signings coming on the defensive side of the ball (former Carolina Panthers cornerback Captain Munnerlyn and former New York Giants defensive tackle Linval Joseph).
Adding Ayers would solidify the Minnesota Vikings' commitment to revamping a defense which allowed an NFL-worst 480 points in 2013 (30 points per game).
Robert Ayers has spent the first five years of his NFL career with the Denver Broncos, functioning as a backup at defensive end (along with being used sparingly at linebacker). He appeared in all 16 regular season games for the Broncos in 2013, starting in just three of those contests. His 5.5 sacks in limited on-field time marked the best total of the 28-year-old pass rusher's career.
