While Minnesota Vikings rumors have been locked in on the defensive side of the ball since the opening of NFL free agency last Tuesday, one of the Vikings' decade-plus mainstays on the defensive line may be left out of the party.
According to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, five-time NFL First-Team All-Pro defensive tackle Kevin Williams is holding less and less hope that the Minnesota Vikings will ask him to come back--
”I’m just sitting here waiting, man,” Williams stated in a phone interview with reporters. “I don’t know [if I’ll be back]. I thought there was a good chance early [in free agency]. It keeps looking slimmer and slimmer, though. … I don’t know what their view is on it, but to me it’s getting slimmer.“
Picked by the Minnesota Vikings with the 9th overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft, Kevin Williams would retain the role of being the longest-tenured Minnesota Viking on the active roster if the Vikings were to decide to bring him back.
Despite appearing in six NFL Pro Bowls over the course of a seven-year span from 2004-10, the Vikings may perceive Williams' age as being a contributing factor to a drop in his production over the past three seasons.
Kevin Williams started in 15 games for the Minnesota Vikings in 2013, posting a career-low 17 tackles. He did post an interception, however, for just the fifth interception of his eleven-year NFL career.
