Tanner Thompson came to Minnesota United with a strong college pedigree as an attacking midfielder at Indiana University and roots via his father to local soccer history. It led this website to declare him as the potential “Steal of the Draft.”
What did he do?
The twice-Hermann Award semi-finalist and older brother to San Jose Earthquakes homegrown midfielder Tommy Thompson was Minnesota United’s 4th round pick in the 2017 SuperDraft. The only reported playing time he received was a 25-minute second half cameo in the Loons’ match against Portland.
Thompson wasn’t tendered a contract following preseason and was released.
