USWNT beats Germany to clinch Olympic quarterfinal spot

The United States women rolled to a 4-1 win over Germany in Olympic soccer on Sunday in Group B, assuring it will have a spot in the quarterfinals after two wins from two games.

The U.S. women's attack was purring in the first half with Sophia Smith scoring twice and Mallory Swanson tapping home the rebound from a stellar strike from Smith, while Germany briefly levelled the score on a goal by Giulia Gwinn.

Starter Tierna Davidson came off shortly before half-time after picking up a lower leg injury, with Emily Sonnett replacing her.
