Twins trying to move Ricky Nolasco - it won't be easy

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Moving Ricky Nolasco's remaining $25 million obligation halfway through a four-year deal won't be easy, but the Twins are investigating possible trade destinations for the veteran right-hander.

"They're trying," said a person that had been in contact with the Twins' front office during this week's winter meetings.

Due $12 million in each of the next two seasons, plus a $1 million buyout on a $13 million club option for 2018, Nolasco has contributed just 196 1/3 innings and a 5.64 earned-run average for the Twins because of elbow and ankle issues. The 2018 option vests with a combined 400 innings over the next two seasons, but that seems unlikely based on Nolasco's first two seasons in Minnesota.
